VFN SPECIAL WELFARE ACTIVITY

We would like to first take this opportunity to wish our favorite star VIJAY a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Thalaiva, we might even forget our own birthdays but we will celebrate your birthday like it is the most special day in our lives. Thats the impact that you have on us
VFN (Vijay Fans Network) and ORKUT fans had decided to celebrate Vijay's birthday in a unique manner by donating two personal computers (PC's) to an orphanage located in Valasaravakkam and also performed 'Anna Dhanam' (Food service).

The idea of donating computers to the orphanage came as a thought to us because with the rapid spreading of technology in India, the children of tomorrow need to learn on how to use the computer as the whole world is now tuning into computers. The whole event was a roaring success, and the children and the other people in the orphanage were seen to be very happy after the whole event.

We would like to thank all of you for your never ending support. It is because of VFN's visitors and VFN's supporters that we were able to conduct the event in a very successful manner. We hope to receive the same kind of support from you forever.

KURUVI 2008

First things first - IF YOU ARE EXPECTING ANOTHER GHILLI, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. Kuruvi is a different film than Ghilli and remembering this before starting to watch the film will help you enjoy the film more. Kuruvi, starring Tamil Cinema's current youth sensation Vijay along with Trisha, Vivek and others entertains you in wholesome manner although one feels it could have been a little better, especially from the director Dharani who is known for giving razor sharp entertaining films like Ghilli, Dhool and Dhill.
Gotcha (Suman) along with a few of his villian friends have captured people and have put them as slaves, which includes Vijay's father Manivannan, in Cudappah of Andhra Pradesh to extract diamond from that area. Vetrivel (Vijay) is the typical Chennai youth (carefree guy!) who is burdened with the responsibility of taking care of his big family. He goes as a Kuruvi to Malaysia along with Vivek to get some money from Gotcha (Suman) so that he can help repay the debts of his father and support his family. There he meets Trisha who falls madly in love with Kuruvi. Vijay comes to know that his father is captured as a slave under the clutches of Suman. How he frees his father and the other slaves, forms the rest of the story
Screenplay & Direction: Director Dharani is in his full elements in the first half with some rip roaring comedy scenes by Vivek and Vijay, even though some of the scenes resemble a few other Hindi and English films. Dharani has also made sure that the songs have been picturised in a very extravagant fashion and in a very colorful manner. But the director slips up quite a bit in the second half where the inspiration heavily comes from a hit Telugu film 'Chatrapathi' which has been modified and looks like it has been pasted to the first half to make a full length feature film.
Some of the scenes in the second half are pretty violent and dragging and could have been trimmed (heard that some were trimmed eventually in theatres across India). The scene before the interval where Vijay flies from the building to the train dilutes the enormous impact created by the first half (it almost induces laughter!). The racing scene at the beginning could have been trimmed a little bit.

Rating: 6/10

Music & BGM: Vidyasagar has as usual rocked with his music and background score. Considering that he is working for his favorite Dharani's film, he keeps his record intact with some mind blowing music and background score. Especially the fight scene at the club makes the fans go clapping in delight with the background score enhancing the effect. The songs coupled with the stylish picturisation make a grand impact on the screen making the fans dance to their heart's content

Rating: 9/10

Camera & Other Technical Aspects: The camera work for this film has been really splendid. It especially shows through in the picturisation of the songs, especially "Happy New Year" and "Thaen Thaen". The editing work is also very good, though the second half could have been made a little bit shorter to make it more racier (but the editor has done what the director wanted him to do!).

Rating: 8/10

Other Cast & Crew: All the cast have performed exactly according to what the director wanted them to do. Special mention needs to be given to Suman, who is menacing as Gotcha and brings a punch to the character. If he excelled as "Adiseshan" with his quite and cool personality in Sivaji, here he is aggressive and fierce as the diamond hungry 'Gotcha'. Ashish Vidyarthi deserves a better role than his portrayal of 'Konda Reddy'. Blink your eye, and you could miss seeing Malavika on screen in Kuruvi. The characters who make up the family of Vijay have all acted very well.

Rating: 8/10

Trisha & Vivek: Trisha is at her lively best in this movie. She provides adequate support to the comedy combo of Vijay and Vivek. She provides ample glamour to entertain her fans. Her chemistry with Vijay is electrifying, and she looks gorgeous in the songs and in many of the scenes. One notices a marked change in her costumes and make up and they further enhance her beauty. She also dances well along with Vijay who is the industry's best "dancer". But the presence of Trisha is greatly limited in this movie unlike Ghilli where she formed a vital part in the pace of the movie. Vivek as "Aaps.." (does anyone know his name in the movie?) is as usual a revelation in Dharani's films. He did a great job in Dhill and Dhool, and he outdoes that with his brilliant coming timing in 'Kuruvi'. He includes quite a few double meaning dialogues that if understood can be really embarassing, but overall his comedy in this film is excellent and invokes a lot of laughter. He combines perfectly with Vijay, who in himself is a very good comedian. Some of his comedy (e.g. the mimicry of certain actors and directors) sound funny when done by Vivek onscreen.

Rating: 9/10

ILAYATHALAPATHY Vijay: Be it dancing, comedy, romance, action, expressions among other things, Vijay shows that he is a master. He does not need a good story, he does not need expert direction. He can carry a film all by himself and take it to the brink of success. He does just that in Kuruvi by literally carrying the film on his own shoulders. His dancing keeps improving with each and every film, and he can be rightfully called the 'Best Dancer in Kollywood'. One cant imagine the amount of effort that he must be putting into those complex dancing steps! His brand of comedy as usual rocks, and he makes a terrific combination with Vivek. His chemistry with Trisha is fantastic (the highlight being the 'Thaen Thaen' song shot in Switzerland). His encounters with Suman in the second half are entertaining to watch, and his punch dialogues certainly pack a punch (e.g. "Nee Kedi naa naan Jilla Kedi daa..")

VIJAY INAUGURATES FLAG FOR VIJAY

The flag hoisting function started at about 4.00PM (IST) on 22 June 2008, on the eve of Vijay's Birthday. For full two hours, fans were entertained by Lakshman Sruthi orchestra. Actor Dhamu stepped forward to entertain the crowd with his mimicry. After his performance, he thanked Vijay and revealed the importance of Vijay’s role in his success. It was Vijay who suggested doing the mimicry of Jurassic Park that had earned him great fame. He thanked Vijay on this occasion for influencing him.

Dharani-" Every man in the world needs a unique identity and I feel this flag to be a unique identity for Vijay. I adore Vijay for his punctuality and his hard work and his involvement in the work he is doing. From my experience, I visualize Vijay as India’s Bruce Lee" Dharani finished his speech with a short and sweet birthday wish to Vijay.

Ramana-" I feel this flag symbolizes Vijay himself .All the things that he has done with hard work has bought him to this top. Vijay has given out this secret to his fans so that they can be successful like Vijay and reach great heights. I also thank Vijay for leading me to the doors of Tamil film industry. And I wish him a very successful year"

Kalaipuli Dhanu-"This is a greatest day not only for Vijay but also for his fans which includes me. I can figure out that the white and blue colors are to represent the Sky where Vijay shines as a Sun (Incomparable)"

R.B.Chowdhry-" In initial periods, I did movie for Vijay but now, it is quiet hard to do a movie for Vijay's image. I am searching for such a script. I am sure it will be the biggest blockbuster"
Ayangaran Karunamoorthi- “This is not just an ordinary function; I believe this to be my family function. I feel very proud to be a Vijay Fan"

Fefsi Vijayan-"Vijay resides in the hearts of crores of fans not just because of his acting and hard work, but also because of his child-like and victorious smile. Vijay appears to be calm and poised but turns completely brave whenever required. All stunts in Pokkiri have been done without a dupe and that is something that many actors don’t even think of. When he was conferred the doctorate, Vijay asked me whether it is right to accept it or not. But I pointed out that for his hard work and good nature, he deserves more than that. He satisfies all people and keeps us happy better than any doctor in this world and he is the real doctor"

Sreeman-"Uyir kaapan thozhan" and I felt this from my best friend Vijay. Like him this flag will reach great heights"

Ravivarman - “An artist is the only person who keeps people happy hiding their own sorrows and misfortunes”. I consider Vijay to be one of the best artists that I have ever seen. I am happy to be working for his film “Villu”. Myself and my son are die hard Vijay fans. I wish him all success."

Dhamu - "My friend has a great and a noble dream. Vijay wants his fans to be victorious in their life; this fan implies my friend’s noble thought towards his fans. Hope fans follow this to make Vijay feel proud"

Lawrence- “I would quote Vijay to be a fearless man. When I was told that I have to dance Thaam Thakka song with him, I was surprised to hear that Vijay accepted this. After seeing the song on screen, I felt Vijay has danced better than me. Leave me, I am just a small kid. Even in Pokkiri pongal song, I felt Vijay outsmarted the great Master 'Prabhudeva'. He believes he can do it, and that has been this flag’s Motto. When I planned to start a school for physically handicapped dancers, the first one who came to support me was our Superstar (Rajnikanth) and next one to give me assurance of Support is the ‘Next superstar’ (Vijay)"

Prabhudeva - "I am always amused by Vijay's love towards his fans. While doing a shot, he doesn’t do it for himself or others but simply does it for the sake of fans and the sake of their enjoyment. Literally he does everything for his fans. Happy birthday Vijay"

SAC - SAC is fondly called as "APPA" by Rasigar mandram people. He started this speech with the following notes "I don’t think any actor's father gets this respect from his fans to be addressed as "Appa". I am very proud to be Vijay's Father. I just laid a road for Vijay's success but it was his racing ability that made him the best. I know how much hard work my son does for every movie. I am blessed to be his father. Flag is not related to politics. The white color of the flag represents “work with pure minds”. And Blue color represents – “By doing so, u can reach the SKY”. We wanted all the fans to be simple, lovable and successful like Vijay himself. During his first film, many of my assistant directors were commenting on Vijay's appearance but due to his hard work, he has risen to such a level that he acted in films directed by those Assistant directors themselves. I wish him all success"
Nayanthara stepped in to wish Vijay a successful life and career. Nayanthara really seemed baffled by the crowd.

Sathyaraj - "I just don’t want to wish one Vijay out here but I want to wish all crores and crores of Vijay. To be simple, i consider all Vijay fans to be Vijay. MGR addresses his fans as "Rathathin Rathame" but I consider Vijay fans as Vijay’s own hard work and pleasant smile. When Vijay was doing his film Deva, I was in Pollachi for shooting the film "Amaithi Padai". My birthday was celebrated on the same hotel where Vijay and I were living for the shooting. Everyone enjoyed to the maximum in the function but I was shocked to find Vijay sitting in the corner. I understood that Vijay appeared to be simple. But now when I entered the Auditorium, I was told to come to the room where Vijay was waiting for me. I was surprised to find Vijay standing in the corner of the room with utmost simplicity. I adore him because in spite of all his achievements, he has never become egoistic and has remained to be noble and simple. I am willing to call Vijay as ‘Amaithi Padai’. I am repeatedly telling this everywhere that ‘Next to MGR, it is always Vijay for me’. I am proud to have him as my brother. I loved a sequence in the song “Nee Mutham Ondru Koduthal" from Pokkiri where Vijay stretches to reach Asin’s Back and Asin revealing a shocked expression. At that point, the expression rendered By Vijay expressed his romantic and childish feature. This is what I call as TRUE ACTING (Idhu dhanya NADIPU). Next to MGR film’s songs, only Vijay’s film songs have revolutionary ideas concerning Society's welfare. Other actors want songs depicting their own personality. ‘Theepandham eduthu theendamai Koluthu’ this is what Ambedkar, Periyar and many others were teaching people. ‘Cheri Illa oorukule poraka venum pera pulla’ indicates his loving to remove poverty from Indian Society. For me Vijay is better than Michael Jackson in dance and better than Jackie Chan in fighting. Wishing him to be like this forever”

Finally came the best moment of the day when Vijay finally got up to address the crowd.
"I love my family and I love my fans to the same extent. I feel happy to celebrate my birthday among my fans (i.e. My Family). I decided to have a flag because a fan of mine requested me to have one. He asked me to enter politics and start a Political party and have a flag. I didn’t want to fit myself in the first two requests that he made. But I thought I can have a Flag for my Mandram. When I was discussing about the flag color, I was standing in my house near the beach (Neelangarai). I saw the sky and sea. Both where Blue. I realized that the world has more water than land, but I felt that the Sky is even more bigger than anything that can hold 100's of world. So I chose Blue and white which represents selfless service. I also want to make it clear that there is no Politics involved in the flag. I have fans in all parties and I don’t want to hurt any fans by supporting one. It is like hurting me. I thank all people and my fans for turning out for the function and making it a grand success"

Many garland and photos were clicked after the function but what remained untouched was the flag flying high, representing Vijay's honor for his fans and humanity. Thanks to Vijay for giving a unique identity for fans. Vijay rules forever

HISTORY OF VIJAY

Vijay, popularly known as ' Ilayathalapathy' Vijay, is the young Turk of the Tamil Film Industry. He was born on 22nd June1974 as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, in a family with a strong filmy background- his father S.A. Chandrasekhar, is a popular director and mother Shoba, a famous playback singer. He made his debut as a child artiste in the film 'Vetri'.

After schooling he joined for a degree in Visual Communications at Loyola College Chennai but later dropped his studies to pursue an acting career. His father S.A.Chandrasekaran introduced him as a hero in his movie 'Naalaiya Theerppu' in 1992. It was movies like 'Poove Unakkaga' (1996) and director Fazil's super hit 'Kadhalukku Mariyathai' (1997) that took his career into an all time high. Initially criticized for his looks, it was sheer determination and hard work that has helped Vijay carve out an enviable slot for himself in the industry.

Vijay also took a challenging role in the movie 'Priyamudan'(1998) as an anti -hero at the height of his career which was unusual, but the movie turned out to be a super hit and gave him a big break. Vijay is talented in all aspects of acting like emoting, action and dance. He has a sense of comic timing and his dancing is simply superb. He has given the audience unforgettable performances in his movies one after the other such as Madhurey(2004), Sachien(2005) Pokkiri(2007) etc which has helped him establish himself as a Tamil Super Star. Even though little dark in complexion, his charming face, innocent smile and bright eyes have made his fans fall head over heels for him.

Vijay is also into playback singing and has sung for many movies such as 'Sachein', 'Bagavathi', 'Thamizhan', 'Badri' and many more. He has also appeared in several commercials like Coca-Cola, Sun feast Milky Magic Biscuit etc. Vijay lends his support to the poor and the needy through his fans' association. They are involved in many social activities such as conducting mass weddings, donations to temples and helping poor children in their education.

Personally, Vijay is a very down to earth person and always remains very simple without the least trace of any affected manners or pretence. Vijay got married to Sangeetha on August 1999 and is blessed with a son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha. He is residing at Chennai with his family.

Vijay has bagged many awards for his performances. He recieved Tamil Nadu’s Best Actor award for 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai' in 1997, State’s Kalaimamani award in 1998, Dinakaran best actor award for 'Ghilli' in 2004, Film Today and Madras Corporate Club Best actor in 2005 for 'Ghilli' and also received the M.G.R.Award in 2000. He is the youngest actor to have won the MGR award from the Tamil Nadu Government.Though he has been through ups and downs in his career, the versatile actor with his winsome youthful looks and eclectic acting potential, is still going strong and remains a super star in the Tamil film Industry.

ILAYA THALAPATHI Dr.VIJAY: ACTING STYLES

www.vijayfansite.com

ACTING STYLES

He began his acting career doing minor, uncredited roles as a child artist in Kollywood. Today he is known for his pacy dance sequences and his stereotypical acting style. He is referred to as Ilaya Thalapathy, which is also always used along with his name in credits. One can expect Vijay films to contain the art of entertaining people with dialogues, songs, dances, and superhero fight scenes.
Vijay's films often open large in India and, more recently, in several other countries as well. Vijay's films are noted to have a minimum guaruntee of collection at box offices. Vijay's stereotypical style of entertainment is often compared to the styles of M. G. Ramachandran and Rajinikanth. This made many film critics to look apon Vijay as the successor of the two actors and christen him as the next super star of Tamil cinema.

VIJAY - THE YAHOO FAN CLUB

Our Yahoo! Fans Club was started on May 6th 2003. During that time, the fan club was basically started because of the non-existence of a full fledged Vijay Yahoo! Fan Club at a time when Yahoo! Fan Clubs of other celebrities were flourishing with more fans joining in. We started off that way but as we started growing, our goals changed. We gradually changed our opinion on what we wanted to achieve through this fan club!

We today pride to say that our Yahoo! Fan club is one of the largest ones in the Yahoo! Community for a Tamil celebrity (3600+ members)! Also we pride in saying that our Yahoo! Fans Club community is one of the most active communties among the fan clubs for other Tamil celebrities (We have been seeing 1000+ messages every month for a record! Our main focus has been on Vijay, his movies, his personal life, his career, etc. We have had members who have become so used to our Yahoo! Club that they have personally written stories that they would like Vijay to use for his forthcoming films! Also, the Yahoo! community has been a place where people with a similar interest (VIJAY) have made friends even though they haven't met each other physically in the real world!
We Though our fan club was the primary reason for the birth of this official fans site, we wholeheartedly support others who are in charge of Yahoo! Fan clubs that are dedicated exclusively for Vijay and Vijay only. We will also wholeheartedly support their efforts by listing their fanclubs here below as follows:

FILM CARRER

Vijay debuted as a lead role actor in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu, produced by his father, then he co-stared with Vijayakanth in the film Sendhoorapandi. This film helped Vijay to become popular in the interior areas of Tamil Nadu. Films like Rasigan, Vishnu, and Deva followed, which all helped to increase Vijay's star value. Vijay is also one of the few lead actors of his generation to co-star with veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan. This opportunity came in the film Once More, directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar in 1994.
The year 1996 saw a blockbuster hit in the Vikraman-directed film Poove Unakkaga which helped Vijay to establish as a bankable star in Tamil films. He found more success with films that followed, which had an unorthodox climax like Love Today, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Priyamudan. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai made Vijay receive that year's Tamil Nadu state Best Actor Award.

Following Thulladha Manamum Thullum, the films Endrendrum Kadhal, Nenjinile, Minsara Kanna and Kannukkul Nilavu failed to meet his previous success. He decided not to commit in films that took a year to release, which changed his trend. His next venture was Kushi which was a blockbuster of 2000. The following films like Priyamanavale, Friends and Badri were once again successful for Vijay
Later on, he starred in Shahjahan, Thamizhan, Youth, and Bagavathi which maintained Vijay's success. However, the films that followed, which were Vaseegara, Pudhiya Geethai, and his delayed film Udhaya became low grossers and flopped. This highly affected Vijay's success rate and he was looked down upon by film critics and producers.
His string of failure films was broken by Thirumalai in 2004 which had Vijay in a new facial appearance. Ghilli, which was also released in 2004, is considered to be one of Vijay's biggest hits today. Another hit had followed, which was Madhurey. It was in this year which Vijay began to portray his current mass-hero, stereotypical acting style. The following year had other major successes such as Thirupaachi, Sachein, and Sivakasi.

Vijay awarded by Kamal Haasan for the success of Pokkiri.
Vijay's only flop film since the release of Thirumalai was Aathi, which released in 2006. Aathi had created some controversy during that year and many film distributors decided on thinking twice before handling any new Vijay films. This resulted in Vijay taking a break from acting for nearly a year, until the launch of Pokkiri, directed by Prabhu Deva, which released in 2007. Pokkiri had met the same success as Ghilli did, in which Vijay was given a different style to act as. This made Vijay receive an honourary doctorate title from the M. G. R. University. Later that year, Vijay appeared in Azhagiya Thamizh Magan, and for the first time, he appeared in dual roles. His roles in this film, as the antagonist and protagonist, made him to be considered for a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.
Vijay is currently acting in Villu, again under Prabhu Deva's direction. The film is expected to be released in 2009. He will also make a special appearance in the film Pandhayam, starring Nithin Sathya and directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar.
